Annual Scitech Festival Lecture Series

EVENT INFORMATION

As part of the Annual Arizona Scitech Festival, Pueblo Grande Museum will be hosting the lecture series for three Fridays in February at noon. These lunch-time are free and open to the public; and sponsored in part by the Phoenix Chapter of the Arizona Archaeology Society and the Pueblo Grande Museum Auxiliary.

Speaker: Chris Loendorf

This presentation summarizes the results of a research program that tested the effect of bow design on projectile performance. Very little empirical data are available regarding the effects of variation in bow design on projectile performance, and this study compares recurve bows to less complex self-bow designs. In order to systematize the results, bows of different designs and a range of weights are analyzed using a bench rest rig and manufactured arrows. Chris Loendorf is a Senior Project Manager for the Gila River Indian Community Cultural Resource Management Program with over 30 years of experience and has worked on a wide variety of archaeological projects from the Southwest to the Northern Plains.
