Friday 12/6, 8-11am: This is a vigorous guided hike that goes from the Nature Center, up and over Goldmine Mountain, down the north side to the Miners’ Graves, and back up and over Goldmine to return to the Nature Center. The hike is approximately 4.5 miles roundtrip with much of it on difficult terrain. The Ranger will talk about the history of Goldmine Mountain and the stories of Mansel Carter and Marion Kennedy, who lived on the mountain in the forties and fifties in search of gold. Previous hiking experience is recommended. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring water, hat, snacks, and sunscreen. Hiking poles are helpful. Please contact Ranger Nikki with any questions about this hike: nikki.bunnell@maricopa.gov. Meet at the Main Trailhead map kiosk/picnic table. $7 per vehicle park entry fee.
