More than 150 years have passed since the Golden Spike marked the completion of the country’s Transcontinental Railroad. At the height of rail expansion more than 70 railroads connected Arizona communities and commerce, crisscrossing the state’s mountains and deserts with 2,500 miles of track. Marshall Trimble takes a look back at how railroads transformed the Arizona Territory.
