Postpartum Around the World Community Gathering

EVENT INFORMATION

Join the 4th Trimester Arizona for our February Community Gathering where we will unpack the topic Postpartum Around the World! Take a trip around the world in 60 minutes to learn about other ways we can better support ourselves and our sisters as we heal. We will look at the postpartum practices in different cultures with a hands-on exploration. While it may not be a current reality for mothers in our culture to have a 40-day lying-in period, we can draw from those practices and find at least one small thing we can try to better support ourselves or our friends after we welcome the next child. This talk is child-friendly and can involve your children if they would like to participate in the discussion. We look forward to seeing you there!

Our guest speaker, Krystyna Bowman, is the director of Willow Wish, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to making the birth center choice accessible to all Arizona families who desire to birth in that setting. She has been a childbirth educator and doula for over ten years, and as such she is passionate about teaching families the sacredness and the beauty of the natural process, while maintaining a realistic outlook that sometimes interventions are necessary and desirable for a Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby outcome. Drawing from her experience as a wife and mother to four children, she strives to prepare families in her classes for “Life After the Birth-Day” with candid discussions about the realities of postpartum: the good, the bad, and the parts that get her kicked out of baby showers and other civilized gatherings.
