SUMMER ACADEMY OF HAWAIIAN ARTS AND YOGA
Purpose: Girls ages 4 to 11 years old participate in life enriching practices of yoga, meditation, hula, tahitian, maori poi, jazz, contemporary, crafts, games.

Time/Cost: 9am-12pm $89 per week. $480 for 6 weeks. 10% sibling discount (in store only).

Debit cards, credit cards, checks, and cash are accepted. If check, please make payable to Aloha Yoga and Hula.

Registration will continue until spots are filled.

Payment in full is due at the time of registration to secure a spot.

Refund Policy: NO REFUNDS WILL BE GRANTED AFTER May 28th. There is a $30 processing for any refunds requested. Requests for refunds must be handled in person at the Aloha Yoga and Hula. Refunds will be processed 2-3 business days.

Cancellation Policy: $30 per week cancelled. $10 per week transferred. Registrations are eligible for a credit if Aloha Yoga and Hula is contacted within 24 hour window of day registered for. This is for sickness or injury. Refunds only offered on an Emergency Basis (accidents, prolonged illness).

What to bring:
-Comfortable clothes to exercise.
-Please provide a daily lunch/snack and a water bottle. Aloha Yoga and Hula will provide a snack in the event that lunch was forgotten (at an additional charge).
-Please bring your own labeled yoga mat (required). If you are bringing yoga straps, please label them, otherwise Aloha Yoga and Hula cannot be responsible if lost.
-The following items are highly recommended but not required: soft sole dance shoes (bear paws or pirouettes), hula pa’u skirt (you may purchase at the studio ONLY if your daughter will enroll in hula lessons), pareo.

Additional Notes for Summer Academy (June – July):
-Each girl will receive a Special Edition shirt during their first full week.

ARRIVAL AND SETUP: Students will leave shoes outside our dance/yoga room and bring their belongings inside. All items must be labeled. Please leave electronics, toys, cell phones and other valuables at home as Aloha Yoga and Hula cannot be held responsible for lost items. NO SHOES ALLOWED IN THE DANCE/YOGA ROOMS.

YOGA AND MEDITATION: students will be introduced to asana (physical postures), pranayama (breath control) and meditation (mind control). A wide variety of yoga asana from basic to more physically challenging will be taught in English as well as Sanskrit (ancient language of India).

HULA CLASS: Students will learn the basic footwork, protocol and hand motions of traditional Hula (Hawaiian dance) with the right technique and following the pace of the Kumu’s ipu (Teacher’s Hawaiian drum). A couple of basic kaikamahine hula auana (modern Hawaiian dance for girls) will be taught. Pa’u skirt highly recommended. Barefoot.

TAHITIAN CLASS: Students will learn the basic footwork and protocol of traditional Tahitian (dance from Tahiti) with the right technique and across the floor combos, followed by a short dance routine. Pareo highly recommended. Barefoot.

MAORI: Students will be introduced to a single poi (ball) with basic wrist motions such as circles (forward & backward), figure eight, helicopter, as well as double poi for double figure eight and butterfly (poi will be provided).

HAWAIIAN CULTURE: Students will be introduced to traditional Hawaiian instruments such as ‘uli ‘uli (Hawaiian rattle), pu ‘ili (bamboo sticks), kala ‘au (guava sticks), ipu heke ‘ole (small gourd drum) and learn the basic ki’ipa (beat pattern) for haumana (students). They will also watch short films about Merrie Monarch (Hula biggest annual competition in Hilo, Hawaii) as well as what it takes to be a Hula dancer.

JAZZ AND CONTEMPORARY DANCE BASICS: Students will be introduced to basic dance technique with the use of across the floor combos, followed by a short dance routine (Funk Jazz or Contemporary). Soft sole dance shoes are highly recommended, such as bear paws or pirouettes (turners). No tennis shoes or hard jazz shoes permitted for they will scratch our sensible floor.

CRAFTS: Students will get hands on sewing their own flower lei (artificial), making bracelets and other hand crafts that develop skill, coordination and focus.

GAMES: Students will participate in fun activities like limbo, pass the lei (like hot potato), musical mats (like musical chairs), freeze dance and other classics with a yoga/dance twist.

PICK UP: We kindly ask that you are punctual to pick up your girl/s. A $10 fee will be applied after 12:15pm for every 15 minutes late.
